Gulf Hypoxia

The scientific word for the commonly named 'Dead Zone' is Hypoxia, or low oxygen. The second largest zone of hypoxia in the world's coastal waters is found in the Gulf of Mexico adjacent to the Mississippi River system.

RiverMap

RiverMap.org is a publicly accessible database and interactive map of the many efforts taking place in the Mississippi River Basin on issues related to nutrient management and hypoxia in the Gulf of Mexico. This information is provided to help us all better understand the impacts of our collective and individual efforts and spark deeper and more effective collaboration toward alleviating hypoxia.

The 1 Mississippi Campaign

The once mighty Mississippi River is in trouble. Pollution from untreated sewage, farms and factories along with weak enforcement of water laws has caused our great River to decline. Because of the its vast tributary system, you don't have to live on the River to have a big impact on the River. The Mississippi River is a part of us and our communities and its poor health impacts us all. But we can help by making simple changes in our lives and standing up for the River.

WorldChanging

WorldChanging.com works from a simple premise: that the tools, models and ideas for building a better future lie all around us. That plenty of people are working on tools for change, but the fields in which they work remain unconnected. That the motive, means and opportunity for profound positive change are already present. That another world is not just possible, it's here. We only need to put the pieces together.
