Koda Energy
One notable example of a Green Lands Blue Water project is Koda Energy, a biomass co-generation facility in the lower Minnesota River valley.
Within 10 years, Koda aims to source 30% of fuel needs from local energy crops, including perennial grasses. The project is expected to create demand for over 4,000 hectares of such crops within a 40-kilometer radius of the facility.
Green Lands Blue Waters works with Koda and regional growers to expand the supply and use of perennial biomass crops for the facility. Their efforts include scientific research into how best to produce the perennial crops; as well as state-level efforts to develop policy and regulation for emerging bio-energy systems.
